After focusing on subjects from life using oils, Ashleigh's recent work has shifted into exploring abstraction with mixed materials on paper. Throughout her practice she is often inspired by the natural world. Her latest work highlights her aesthetic appreciation for the cellular and microscopic. The relationship between marks, shapes, forms and textures are explored with various pigment and solvent interactions that are both carefully controlled and purposefully chaotic.
Ashleigh currently teaches in the visual arts at a small private high school on California’s central coast. She works alongside her husband and fellow maker, Johnny Ninos, with their little boy in tow.
